TF’s Model School: Mothers prepared teaching learning materials

A one day workshop was organized at the Model School on 23rd June 26, 2011 to prepare teaching learning materials (TLMs). One of the main objectives of TF's Model School is to involve mothers in the teaching learning process. Each of them visits the school at least one day in a week to see how her ward/s is performing in the classroom. They also participate in sports programme, exposure visits and regular monthly meetings.

Three groups of the mothers were formed to involve them in the actual process of preparing teaching learning materials for their own children. They were guided to make flash cards on different seasons, days of the week and my school. At the beginning mothers’ were bot confident of being able to help in the teaching learning process but when the themes and process were shared, spontaneous participation was observed. They all enjoyed the activities .Laxman’s mother worked in a factory as a daily labour, on that day she sacrificed her daily wage and enjoyed to prepare the materials for her son. Mongol Paik’s mother worked as maid servant but on that day she took leave.

Out of 48, 28 mothers were present. Usually everyday they all remain busy with their daily work but they tried to arrange their schedule and joined the workshop for the sake of their children. They made cards, drew and coloured pictures. Few of them shared that after a long time they felt that were getting their schooldays back!

TF Model School is a Hindi medium school recognized by Kolkata Municipal Corporation (Code: 264/083/HM) and supported by Mennonite Central Committee (MCC).
