A precious life is saved - THANK YOU ALL
Yes, a precious life is saved. At least in this case hearts won over heads. When we admitted Abhishek (previous report given below) in Nightingale Diagnostic Centre on 21st August, 2009, neither we nor the doctors believed that with 85% burn injuries Abhishek will survive. For the doctors at Nightingale it was a challenge to pitch in with their expertise and care. For us at Tomorrow's Foundation, it was another challenge to collect resources to meet the highly costly expenditures for Abhishek's treatment. Neither of the teams left any stone unturned to meet these challenges.
The good news is a safe and cured Abhishek is released from Nightingale yesterday. He has been admitted in a charitable hospital run by Hope Foundation for post operation care. We sincerely thank Hope Foundation for its kind gesture.
Till yesterday we spent Rs. 5,06,565 for Abhishek's treatment (details given below) and raised Rs. 2,25,242. The challenge remains - we have to raise another Rs. 281323. We received heart warming response towards our campaign to save Abhishek's life. People from all over the world pitched in with whatever they could contribute. But more than the money, good wishes from their heart gave us courage to fight on. THANK YOU ALL.
We must specially mention Dr. Sandipan Gupta and his team for an effort which we would never forget in our life.
Our campaign to save Abhisjek's life:
We are praying for Abhishek - he must survive

Abhishek Mukherjee, a class V student from our Mother Project, has always been a very naughty child. There is no dearth of complaints against him. Everyday, he would do something to irritate the teachers and other students. But ask any teacher, s/he loves him as an affectionate and intelligent child. On a rainy Sunday (16th August, 2009) he was running behind a Kite. The kite was struck on an overhead electric wire. Abhishek tried to pull down the kite using a rain soaked towel (gamcha) – within seconds the world of Abhisek was changed. He got 85% burn injury.
By the time we got the news he was admitted in Chittaranjan Hospital. Chittaranjan Hospital is a state government run medical college with bare minimum facilities. Doctors said there is no chance of survival. The other hospital staff indicated that they were just waiting for the end. We had to take a decision. Abhishek was not getting any specialized treatment in Chittaranjan Hospital and the only government run hospital in the City with special section for burn injury is SSKM hospital. But there was no bed vacant. The only other option was private nursing homes with facilities for treatment of burn injuries.
After consultations with known doctors and specialist it was decided that Abhishek would be admitted in Nightingale Diagnostic Centre (11, Shakespeare Sarani, Kolkata-700071, Ph : 2282 7972/7970/7969). Despite an unwilling administration we could admit Abhishek in Nightingale Diagnostic Centre on 21st August, 2009.
The doctors at Nightingale are not overtly hopeful. They say Abhishek has tremendous energy – they would do their best.
Abhishek’s father is a daily labour and his mother works as a maid. Abhishek has 2 younger brother – all three of them study in our Mother Project.
Earlier we estmated that the expenditure for Abhishek's treatment would be 1,50,000. It seems now that Abhishek has to stay in the nursing home for around 30 days. Per day we are spending Rs. 16660. Following this trend we have to spend at least Rs. 499800.
YOU CAN HELP – Yes, you can help. We know it is very difficult to donate without a plan. We are not asking for more - donate only Rs. 100 ($ 2) – we are sure you can do it. We would continue to update this page with total donation collected and expenditures being incurred.

Its heart-warming to hear that Abhishek is recovering. But the challenge remains. We all will have to ensure that his post-operation care continues unhampered.
