Jyotishka has grown to absorb under-privileged children from many other backgrounds as well.Initially, children were placed in hostels (like the Uttaran Project). Food and education were provided and the children were prepared for formal schooling.
Older children were given skills development training, so that they could earn some kind of
income. Their mothers were motivated to start Self Help Groups and to start income generation
Projects which would allow them to stay back to look after their children while husbands
continued with the migrant way of life. This has led to a greater sense of security for the children
and also improved family bonding.
In 2015, TF handed over the running of these hostels was handed over to the Asha Foundation
and Fondation Claude Castellano (Caritas France).
